Shared Principles of the Soiva Metsä Festival

The Soiva Metsä Festival is a multicultural and multifaceted event where people from diverse backgrounds, age groups, and professions come together to celebrate forest and art. Participants have varying starting points for engaging in discussions about forests and understanding safer space principles. Such an environment requires special patience, openness, and active engagement from participants to navigate socially and ecologically diverse and occasionally challenging situations.

In our activities, we strive to promote a safe, equal, and ecologically sustainable space where everyone can participate as their authentic selves. We are all responsible for creating an environment where we respect one another and remain open to dialogue. We respect others’ personal space and acknowledge that boundaries may differ for each individual.

We are committed to opposing discrimination and promoting equality. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, such as sexism, racism, transphobia, or discrimination based on age or profession. We avoid making assumptions about others’ gender, sexuality, or background. We respect everyone’s right to self-determination.

We recognize that discrimination can also be unintentional or subtle. The festival has designated harassment contact persons available to address any issues that may arise.

We emphasize constructive dialogue and everyone’s right to be heard. We hope that all participants have the courage to address discriminatory behavior and actively support one another.

We encourage all participants to respect the biodiversity of the forest and nature, which includes practical actions at the festival: we stick to pathways, recycle, and conserve resources such as water and energy.

Mistakes are allowed, but we apologize, learn, and strive to continuously improve together.

  1. Respect the forest environment and its inhabitants.

  2. Do not behave in a deliberately discriminatory or mocking way toward others through speech, behavior, or actions.

  3. Be aware of the assumptions you make.

  4. Respect everyone's bodily and personal autonomy.

  5. Be aware of your own position; make space for others.

  6. Strive for constructive dialogue—listen and remain open to learning.

  7. Take responsibility for your actions—act and support others.

  8. Be your authentic self—while respecting others and the environment.
